⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ After the Flood was another #bookstagramreccomends and while it was enjoyable to read, I didn’t fall totally in love with it. Before I give a brief summary, I do want to include a trigger warning!

After the Flood is a cross between a dystopian novel, and a mother daughter relationship journey. I was mainly hooked in on the dystopian aspect of the novel, the whole world practically was flooded and now settlements are on the tops of the highest mountains or boats. Fascinating, right?! I loved hearing about how the floods happened, and what the governments did. We got basically the backstory of the dystopian setting which for a dystopian novel, is unusual I think.
In this new flooded world, Myra and her daughter Pearl stick to themselves, grieving the loss of Myra’s older daughter Row, her grandfather, her father, and her husband. When they find out Row might be alive, they start on a harrowing journey to find her, and quickly realize they need to reach a hand out.
This story is so much about the relationships, and that sense was really beautiful. For me, it was the ending that fell a little flat, with so much climax that really just petered out quickly. It just didn’t leave me feeling satisfied or wanting more.
