AutoBuy Author Disappointment
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Jasmine Guillory is an autobuy for me after I read her The Proposal series and loved it but unfortunately this one was disappointing
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I know it was published by Hyperion and is a beauty and the beast modern interpretation but it felt like a older YA or NA novel (Goodreads disagrees, says it’s adult) and it lacked all the best parts that make JG such a wonderful romance writer!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I loved that Izzy worked in publishing, but also why do all these authors keep writing books about being a publisher thinking it will get them bookstagrammer readers?! Like yes it will but it feels cheap (looking at you Emily Henry/Book Lovers!)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The romance was a slow burn and more sweet than spicy. Our grumpy main man Beau who also happens to be filthy rich and unable to do simple tasks like load a dishwasher can in fact change thanks to our hardworking city publishing girl Izzy!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Can you hear the sarcasm in my voice?!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Nothing really felt realistic or organic. All of the things that they did as a couple or hobbies and traits Beau and Izzy had felt unrealistic and added just to get clout or fans like really a rich celebrity who is trying to learn how to make croissants but can’t load a dishwasher?! And he also likes period dramas? And Izzy works in publishing but wants to write a book? Groundbreaking.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I can’t spend anymore time on the book but it wasn’t for me and the more I think about it the more negative things I have to say 🙃🙃🙃
My six word review:
Disappointing Disney retelling, bad character development
