I should just go into Helen Hoang’s books knowing they are STEAMYYYYY but I was naive and didn’t think this one would be for some reason and holy moly guacamole!!

The steam was 10/10!!

I love Helen Hoang’s books and how she tackles more complicated things for a romance, and the topic of burnout was all too relatable in this one. As Anna tries to recover from burnout (and a bit of perfectionism) her boyfriend decides he wants an open relationship so Anna goes for the most badass man possible, tattooed and motorcycle riding Quan. In the words of Lorelei Gilmore, “ if you’re going to throw your life away for a boy he better have a motorcycle”.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Then Anna is forced into the role of caregiver for her ill father, and it slowly sucks the life out of her. Not because she isn’t caring, but because devoting yourself entirely to taking care of someone else is so unhealthy even though the rest of her family can’t see that. But Quan was there, and her boyfriend was.. a piece of trash.

This didn’t feel like a romance the whole time because the deep depression being forced into this caregiver role puts Anna in was dark. I’ve been there. We all have. It was so freakin real it was scary. Did Helen read my mind?

Now that I’m writing this review it makes me think that the book was a little bit all over the place with just so much happening, but it was still so good and tackled some really real topics while still being super sexy and enjoyable to read.
