The Newcomer

I love MKA for summery books! Every book I’ve read of hers has these intricate characters and they all interact in such a unique way. Every character has detail, nobody is forgotten about. It’s a very chill romance, but you don’t read it for romance, it’s a true beach read! You read to see a character grow, you get immersed in their community and invested in whatever they are doing or overcoming!

The Newcomer is no different.

You start the book knowing Letty has a little girl Maya with her, it’s her niece, and her mom is gone. Letty’s sister told her if something happened to her, take Maya and run and don’t let her ex find them. Letty’s on the run, and you just feel the grief and the anxiety and the exhaustion as she tries to figure out what to do to keep Maya safe, while learning to care for her.

They end up in a beach town, at a motel, and thanks to a lovely motel owner, they start to be able to breathe just a little bit (except for that the owners son is a cop, and he’s curious). You learn more about why they are on the run, who is the bad guy, and how this even happened with flashbacks.

Until they can’t stay hidden anymore.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It gets suspenseful, there’s family drama, and even though the cop is starting to figure out who she is, they also have some major sparks!

I really really loved reading this story, I was on the edge of my seat near the end, and I loved the dynamics of all the minor characters and how they brought The Murmuring Surf Motel to life.

My six word review:
Intricate characters, intense plot, summery setting
