The Grace Year

If you liked The Hunger Games and the Handmaids Tale, then you need to read The Grace Year!

This book was so freaking good with so many twists and surprises. You’ve probably seen it everywhere but girls are not treated well in this society. They all wear their hair braided with a ribbon – white for 15 and under, black for 17 and older, and red for 16, the Grace year. The year where they are considered “magical” and able to lure men anywhere to do anything and that’s dangerous. The Grace year is supposed to make them get rid of their magic so it’s safe to live in the society and get married. Except half the girls don’t survive the grace year and it’s like fight club, you don’t talk about it.

There were so many things about this book that were just so intricate and detailed and totally wild. This whole community is like insane. The women don’t support eachother even after surviving the Grace year together. The men don’t allow the women to congregate alone. The men believe women have magic powers that lead them to do things. They are all about shaming women but they don’t care about premarital sex like most of these types of communities which is totally wild! It’s like nbd the girls have to sleep with the boys before their Grace year to make sure they choose them to marry! Also that whole choosing ceremony.. crazy! Also spoiler alert for the next sentence🚨: the council pays the hunters to kill the Grace year girls?! Wtf! These grown ass men are so attracted to 16 year olds they can’t control themselves and so they blame it on the girls and “magic” and send the girls away and then pay other people to kill them off?! I have to congratulate the author because The Grace Year was incredible. This whole society she wrote was so freaking detailed and I can see a whole series just going into more on the different aspects! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars to my first read of 2020!

My six word review:
