Oh man I don’t even know how to start this review.
This was like *the book* of 2019. Everyone loved it. But man I don’t know what it is but it just didn’t sit in the same “loved it” category for me.
I enjoyed it, yes, and finished it quickly, but when it was over I just felt like it wasn’t living up to the hype. Maybe that’s why I’m only giving it a ⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars (originally I thought 4) because I thought it would be 5 stars and it wasn’t for me. I thought the author wrote beautifully the first two thirds, describing the marshes and such, but it wasn’t my cup of tea. It was so slow and depressing, juxtaposed to the last 1/3 of the book where it felt like a whole different person wrote it. It was a different speed, language, and just didn’t fit in. For a book that is getting such high accolades, it just didn’t feel on par with others getting the same hype. It would make a great movie though!
My six word review:
A story of class and prejudices
I love this community because it pushes us to read out of our comfort zone, and also allows us to discuss books we loved or didn’t love so much. I am so thankful that I am able to share books I am unsure about and get feedback, and even when we disagree we are still friends! (I hope!!) What did you think of Crawdads? Please share your opinions, I’d like to develop my own thoughts more and discuss!
