Educated

the book hangover begins.

I don’t even know what to say about this book. Well I do, but I don’t know how to concisely say it without screaming and/or writing many run-on sentences.

Instead, I think I’m going to say something to Tara.

Thank you for sharing your story. Thank you for being brave. Thank you for being vulnerable. Thank you for your grace. Enduring what you did, fighting for yourself, and fighting against everything you’ve ever known, makes you so strong and such an inspiration.

I grew up in a sect of Fundamental Lutheranism, that is riddled with issues and traumatic stories. While it isn’t anything near what Tara endured, I can emphasize. I understand, if to a lesser degree, that fish out of water feeling, when you realize that everything you were taught, may not be true, and maybe you don’t belong on the path you of are now. I can empathize, to a lesser degree, with the fear you lived in and the ignorance and how traumatic it is to step into the light of understanding and education. Thank you for telling your story with such poise and grace. If I were in your shoes, I would be more like the email you wrote to your father — full of anger and hate, and expletives. I am reassured to see your grace. You are so brave. You are so strong. Thank you.
