I have really struggled to develop my thoughts on this book which is why I wish I hadn’t read the reviews of this book BEFORE reading it for myself! I was so excited for it and when I bought it I read it in one sitting. I love @xtinemay and have followed her on booktube for many years. I admired her so much for helping me see there were more people like me and I was weird and that was okay! However some of the reviews for this book haven’t been great.. it hurt my heart to read so much negativity on goodreads because I’ll be totally honest.. I loved “Again, but Better”! I related so hard to the main character Shane, especially since I recently dropped out of college because I felt like I wasn’t pursuing my passions. SPOILERS START HERE! I loved the nerdy jokes and reminders of 2011-2012. I felt like how the first travel abroad went was actually really accurate to a real life situation. It reminded me of my first crush on a guy after moving into my college dorm. After a few weeks of being together all the time, I never really saw him so that whole plot line was extremely relatable. The one piece I did really struggle with was the scene when they went back along with the woman following them all over the place. It felt a little too “out there” for me but it’s not enough for me to say the book sucked and I hated it. Even how Shane reacts to being in the past, mentioning what movies aren’t even out yet and kinda freaking out about it, like that’s so normal (if going to the past was normal!) We all would be thinking oh shit Taylor hasn’t dropped Reputation OR Lover yet?! These people are IN FOR IT! I loved the characters and it felt so real and @xtinemay just nailed having characters who feel so real and react so normally to abnormal situations. There are a few weak points in the plot, however if you are looking to read a heartwarming, relatable love story, like most YA readers are, “Again, but better” is going to be a five star novel for you.
