This book is massive, but if you’ve conquered GOT, Outlander, or the 5th Harry Potter, you can read this one! I loved this book, it was a perfect combination of fiction and reality. If you liked Outlander, I would highly recommend INTO THE WILDERNESS! It has less fantasy and more history and it was wonderful.

Elizabeth is a self declared spinster from England and she has decided to move to the colonies from her aunts to her fathers to teach school and gets entangled in a love triangle, a property dispute, and begins to run for her life— but she doesn’t do it alone. The Bonners are a family nearby and she can’t help but be drawn to single father Nathanial, even when she has another suitor her father prefers.

My six word review:
Beautiful, historical, and completely romantic story

Such A Fun Age https://ablondebookishgirl.com/such-a-fun-age/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=such-a-fun-age https://ablondebookishgirl.com/such-a-fun-age/#respond Thu, 22 Aug 2024 20:39:35 +0000 https://ablondebookishgirl.com/?p=1799 I read this book like a week ago (maybe 2? What is time??) and I just still am in awe with how much I loved this book and trying to figure out what I wanted to say.⠀

SUCH A FUN AGE is about Emira a young black female babysitter for a wealthy white family. She is a little lost like most young people but loves her nanny kid Briar. After a night out with friends her boss Alix calls her in a panic, someone attacked their house and she needs Emira to come take the toddler Briar to the store just to get her out of the house. She does because she is getting paid a lot extra and at the store after a dance off with the lil one, she is approached by security and accused of kidnapping the kid. She gets frustrated (understandably so!!) and yells at security and it starts to escalate. A guy there sees what is happening and begins filming it even though Emira said she doesn’t want to be filmed and make a big deal about it. Despite her wishes, it becomes a big deal and changes everything about where she works, who she falls in love with, and her entire life course.⠀

This was such a multifaceted story and everyone has taken something different from it. I really related to how much Emira struggled thinking about leaving her job and Briar. I know that heartbreaking feeling of knowing you have to leave for your mental health and life but leaving the kids feeling like they won’t have anyone looking out for them is difficult.⠀

I enjoyed that this book felt lighter than most stories about race but still tackled some really complex issues and I didn’t need a mental health break after reading it. I want a bookclub on this book to better discern how I feel about this book.⠀

Late To The Party https://ablondebookishgirl.com/late-to-the-party/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=late-to-the-party https://ablondebookishgirl.com/late-to-the-party/#respond Thu, 22 Aug 2024 20:38:39 +0000 https://ablondebookishgirl.com/?p=1801 I’m messing up my review order because LATE TO THE PARTY is releasing today! Thank you @netgalley for the advanced copy!

LATE TO THE PARTY was a really fun coming of age story about some LGBQTIA+ kids and the struggles to find your identity outside of your closest friends and family.

It’s a really relatable struggle of trying to escape who you were as a kid as you grow up and wrestle with sexuality and so Kelly Quindlen really captures that in this book.

Synopsis: Codi has two best friends from childhood, JaKory and Maritza. Codi is shy and artistic and feels put in a box by her friends. After they try and get her to get out more, she meets some new friends and starts to explore who she is and comes out of her shell. However leaving childhood friends without any explanation because you feel like they are holding you back is going to piss some people off.

This was such a diverse novel and it was really refreshing to see! The characters were complex and I couldn’t decide if I loved them or hated them in all their teenage angst.

My six word review:
Funny, relatable, and full of angst •
