One last review of 2019!
I finished this book a few minutes ago and was totally shook the entire time. I am going to the @barnesandnoble book club for this book next week and I’m super excited to hear what other people think!
I thought it had a perfect amount of creep and suspense without getting so uncomfortable you don’t want to be alone.
I struggled a bit between the jumping time and perspectives and it was confusing in all the right ways. I thought the ending wrapped up too neatly… like there has to be more!!!!!! Why did nobody question the TRACKING DEVICE IN LIBBYS PHONE WTF?! Like you had to have found out somehow!
Anyway, you’ve seen this everywhere so I won’t give a long synopsis this time around but 10/10 would recommend I gave it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars it kept me thrilled to the last page! Basically there is a wealthy family that spent their money away and their vulnerability aids them to invite another family in. Quickly the father of the new family takes over and the house eventually boils down to him in charge via brainwashing and fear where they wear black robes and don’t eat and he abuses people and they don’t ever leave. This time perspective is told from one sons POV.
Fast forward and Libby has just inherited a house from her biological family at the age of 25. She starts to unravel the secrets of the house and the family she was raised in and what happened Ro lead to her adoption.
We also get the perspective of Lucy, and she’s a homeless single mother of two. We know she’s from the family but we don’t learn truly her role until the last few chapters.
This book twists and turns and every page and it is just so good! Make it top of your list for 2020!
