The First Mistake

Oooh boy I struggled with this one.

I barely finished it. It was so predictable, it had a fairly weak plot, and I finished it last week and can’t remember most of what happened. I wish I could write a full review, but that would require me to reread half the book. Basically, there’s a really bad guy who scams women out of money and he scammed two best friends like 10 years apart and it jumps between the two times to tell the story of what happened.

I gave this one 3 stars in my initial thoughts but because I literally can’t remember this book so I think I have to downgrade it to ⭐️ or ⭐️⭐️. I feel so guilty rating books poorly. I want to love every book I read and in the moment I do love every book I read unless I DNF. However this one fell so flat!

I do remember that this book needed some trigger warnings for gaslighting, cheating, and domestic abuse!

Do you struggle with rating books low?? How do you go about it?
