THE GOLDEN HOUR

Beatriz Williams is so talented! Thank you @williammortow for the free copy of this book! #WMTastemakers

THE GOLDEN HOUR is a historical fiction with a dash of romance that follows these two different timelines about 40ish years apart. It was so well written and I loved seeing how the two timelines interacted and influenced the other.⠀

The first timeline is early 1900’s at a hospital/mental institute. A young woman is there for what we piece together to be postpartum depression and a young man is there for pneumonia (? It was a tiny part and I read this like two weeks ago forgive me). They have a spark even though the young woman, Elfriede, is married. Their love can handle anything, and they write letters after Elfriede returns to her ailing husband. Their story is my favorite part of this book, and seeing who these two people are as it interacts with timeline two was lovely. ⠀

The later timeline is during WW2 in the Bahamas with the Windsor’s, not the King and Queen, the infamous Windsor’s. Lulu is a journalist and is on assignment to write about them since the Americans love Wallis. That’s about the extent of their involvement in the book! She begins to befriend them and their social circle and also a handsome man named Benedict Thorpe. It’s hot, and there are a lot of secrets in high society. As Lulu begins to fall in love with Benedict, he disappears and Lulu goes to find him in Europe. And this is where the two timelines come together and the story really developed and got interesting to me!⠀

It was fun reading about the Bahamas and high society but I am a romantic and when Lulu goes after her love I’m all for it!⠀

My six word review:⠀
Generations of love searching for him⠀
