Ok so this was a #bookstagramrecommends book that really fell flat for me

I wanted to love it, but was mostly confused and bored. The concept is interesting, the setting is fantastic, but the monster thing was too much for me, it felt like it didn’t fit and just was thrown in there and it made the book feel like it had too much going on. Plus the main characters felt super underdeveloped and like I was missing so much of their story!

I loved the setting of 1920’s Shanghai and how Roma and Juliet are heirs to rival gangs, and that alone is an amazing story that should’ve been written.

This was just too much in some places and not enough in others and left me disappointed.
